WEST ALTON, Mo. (AP) -- A man is dead after a St. Charles County Sheriff's deputy trying to break up a fight shocked him with a Taser.
Deputies say they were called to the Piasa Pantry in West Alton Tuesday night to quell a fight between James Wilson of Alton, Ill., and his sister. Sheriff Tom Neer said the deputy used his Taser after Wilson started threatening the officer and coming at him.
Wilson lost consciousness and deputies' efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Neer said a preliminary investigation shows that the deputy followed all policies and procedures regarding the use of Tasers.
The three-year veteran deputy is on administrative leave pending the outcome of a departmental investigation.
