A Cape Girardeau man already was facing a likely felony charge for possession of methamphetamine, but he picked up two misdemeanors after police said he tripped an officer on the way to the squad car.
Cape Girardeau Police Department officers responded to 1825 Bloomfield St. at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday for a call of damaged property, Cape Girardeau public information officer Adam Glueck said.
They found David Ray Oliver, 49, of Cape Girardeau amid shattered glass doors.
The officers detained Oliver and searched him, finding the methamphetamine and a syringe.
Oliver purposefully tripped the officer and fell himself on the way to the car, Glueck said.
The officer asked Ray about his intentions.
"He gave an explanation, but I'm not sure it made any sense," Glueck said.
Ray faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of property damage, assault, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.
