JAMESPORT, Mo. -- A man has been charged with more than 35 criminal complaints after police say he stole from more than a dozen grave sites in Daviess County.
The St. Joseph News-Press reported 45-year-old Leslie Harrison was charged Tuesday with 16 counts of felony stealing and 16 counts of felony property damage for the theft of 16 bronze headstone markers from the Bethel Cemetery. Harrison also faces drug-related charges.
According to court documents, a Daviess County deputy responded June 29 to a Jamesport scrapyard, where they say Harrison was trying to sell bronze plates. Documents say bronze headstone markers were found in Harrison's vehicle.
Daviess County Sheriff Ben Becerra said the cost of replacing the plates plus labor is estimated to be about $20,000.
Harrison is being held on $85,000 bond. His arraignment is set for July 6.
