A 23-year-old Belgrade, Mo., man was charged this week in connection with a mugging that occurred in June at Schnucks Supermarket of Cape Girardeau.

A 23-year-old Belgrade, Mo., man was charged this week in connection with a mugging that occurred in June at Schnucks Supermarket of Cape Girardeau.

Larry J. Bridges was already in custody at the Cape Girardeau Police Department on Monday on various other warrants when detectives questioned him about the incident at Schnucks, said Cpl. Adam Glueck, spokesman for the police department.

Bridges was charged Wednesday with second-degree robbery for allegedly snatching a purse off the shoulder of an elderly woman who was in the checkout at the grocery store.

The incident occurred early on the morning of June 22, Glueck said.

Bridges is incarcerated at the Cape Girardeau County Jail on a $50,000 cash or surety bond.
