A warrant was issued Friday for a Scott City man found with more than $400 in quarters in his truck after an alleged burglary.
Larry D. Tanner, 27, has been charged with second-degree burglary and theft of property or services valued at more than $500 but less than $25,000, online court records show.
Tanner is accused of stealing a change machine from a Jackson laundromat the morning of April 5, accoring to a probable-cause statement written by Jackson police officer Austin Reed.
Security footage showed a dark-colored Dodge pickup truck at the front of the business. It showed two people getting out of the truck, entering the business and gaining access behind the wall where the change machine was hanging, Reed wrote.
After a few minutes, the recording shows the machine falling to the floor, causing "heavy damage" to the wall, Reed wrote.
The statement says the subjects put the change machine in the back of the truck and drove away.
Scott City police contacted Reed as he was viewing the footage and told him they'd arrested a man in a truck matching the description of the Dodge involved in the burglary, the statement said.
At the time of Tanner's arrest, the missing change machine was found in the bed of the truck and more than $400 in quarters in the vehicle.
"We have no idea why it took so long" for the warrant to be issued for Tanner, Capt. Rodney Barnes of the Jackson Police Department said, adding the other subject involved already has been paroled for the same crime. Barnes did not have the other subject's name available.
Judge Gary Kamp issued the warrant for Tanner and assigned a $10,000 cash or surety bond.
