CHICAGO -- Police arrested a Chicago man after he was seen brandishing firearms inside the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition headquarters Saturday on the city's South Side.
Willie Wallace, 25, was arrested on two charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after he entered a Rainbow/PUSH community meeting around 11 a.m. carrying two unloaded handguns, said Chicago police spokes-man Sgt. Robert Cargie.
Walker "was walking down the aisle of the church with two 22-caliber semi-automatic handguns in his hand," said police Capt. Eugene Roy. At that point, security officers employed by Rainbow/PUSH intervened.
Wallace did not make any threatening comments or remarks, Roy said, adding that he never pointed the weapon at anyone.
"I saw where he went into his pocket and he pulled out a gun and then I said 'he has a gun, he has a gun,"' witness Haroom Rajaee told CLTV.
No injuries were reported, police spokesman Officer Matthew Jackson said, adding that Wallace was being held in police custody pending an appearance in bond court Sunday. He said a preliminary hearing for Wallace was scheduled for April 26.
The Rev. Jesse Jackson, who heads Rainbow/PUSH, noticed a commotion while he was speaking but did not know what it was about, said the group's spokeswoman, Keiana Peyton. She said the incident "didn't disrupt the meeting," which was being broadcast live on radio.
Jackson said he was not worried about the incident.
"And I am not preoccupied with it," he said. "I will keep doing my work. And the police must do their work."
