Man calls wrong number, offers drugs to police officer

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- A wrong number proved costly Tuesday for a Caruthersville man who authorities say mistakenly called a police officer to sell drugs, the Standard Democrat reported. About 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, a Caruthersville police officer received a phone call from a man who unknowingly dialed the wrong number and attempted to sell some hydrocodone pills, according to a news release from the police department. The officer -- realizing the man had the wrong number -- continued to talk to him and agreed to purchase the prescription medication. The officer told the man to meet him on the parking lot of the Pemiscot County Courthouse. About 10 minutes later, the man showed up and was arrested without incident. Officers found the prescription medication in a cigarette pack on the man. The 47-year-old man was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and taken to the Caruthersville Police Department, where he was processed and released pending formal charges.
