A Jackson man who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend Sunday night faces felony charges for breaking the nose of one of the police officers who responded to the call, authorities said.
Allison V. Brooks Jr., 22, of 1445 Woodland Drive, is in the Cape Girardeau County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 cash-only bond. Assistant prosecuting attorney Ben Gray said that Brooks is charged with first-degree assault on a police officer for allegedly punching Sgt. Scott Eakers in the face. Eakers was recently released from a local hospital, according to police, but faces more medical treatment.
Brooks is also charged with second-degree assault on a police officer. According to Gray, Brooks allegedly threw patrolman Chris Green onto a coffee table while Eakers and Green were trying to arrest him.
Brooks is also charged with resisting arrest and felony domestic assault.
Two sheriff's deputies backed up the Jackson officers, and one of them reportedly used a Taser to subdue Brooks.
Jackson police chief James Humphreys said that Brooks eventually calmed down and apologized to the officers.
Brooks is scheduled for a March 22 preliminary hearing.
