ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A 14-year-old girl is rescued and the man who allegedly abducted her is in police custody after an incident that began at the girl's home in Columbia, Ill., and ended with a police chase in St. Louis.

Britany Adkins was reportedly abducted at knifepoint just before 3 a.m. Wednesday, allegedly by a 17-year-old suspect. The suspect was arrested after a brief chase that ended around 7:15 a.m. in St. Louis city.

Authorities say the suspect led police through downtown during the morning rush hour and came close to hitting several cars.

Britany was apparently unharmed.
