VAN BUREN, Mo. -- A man authorities believe had been hiding out in Carter County after jumping his parole in New York will be returning there Tuesday.
New York authorities will arrive in Carter County today to begin the process of extraditing Charles A. Myrtetus, 63, back to their
jurisdiction.
"I took Charles in front of the judge [Thursday]; he signed his waiver for the extradition," said Carter County Sheriff Tommy Adams. "He said it was time he went back to New York and finished his time."
Wanted for parole violation in Onondaga County, N.Y., Myrtetus was arrested about 6:30 p.m. Feb. 15 by Carter County and federal authorities.
He had been "considered to be on the run since 2003," Adams said. "At first, we were only told he had been in Carter County for two years, [but he's] been in Carter County/Shannon County for at least four years."
Authorities believe Myrtetus, who they say has used several aliases, arrived in Shannon County in late 2004 or early 2005, Adams
said.
