Cape Girardeau police arrested a man at McDonald's restaurant on Broadway in connection with a report of a shot fired late Wednesday afternoon in the 1700 block of Woodlawn Street, according to police public information officer Rick Schmidt.
Police responded to a call at 4:47 p.m. a shot had been fired. There was no report of injury. Schmidt said the shot may have been fired in the air.
The caller provided information as to the suspect and the vehicle the suspect was driving, Schmidt said. A police officer happened to be in the vicinity and spotted the suspect's vehicle in the drive-through lane at McDonald's within minutes after the call, Schmidt said.
Police waited until the suspect's vehicle had proceeded through the drive-through lane before stopping the vehicle and making an arrest, Schmidt said.
There were three people in the vehicle, two males and one female, he said. All three were initially detained before two of the occupants were released, he said.
A handgun was recovered, but Schmidt said it is unclear if the weapon is connected to the shot fired on Woodlawn Street.
As of Wednesday evening, the suspect's name had not been released. Charges could be filed today, he said.
