SCOTT CITY -- An incident of "road rage" that began Friday afternoon on northbound Interstate 55 between Sikeston and Benton ended with a collision in front of the Scott City police station and the arrest of a 71-year-old Missouri man.
Police said a man reported being followed from Sikeston by a car along Interstate 55 shortly before 2 p.m. The aggressor in a Dodge Ram pickup repeatedly bumped the other car, a Pontiac Trans Am, according to police. The Trans Am driver contacted 911 on his car phone and was told to exit the interstate at Scott City.
Police said the bumping continued after the drivers turned off the interstate and onto Main Street in Scott City.
The vehicles continued eastbound on Main Street, and police said firefighters saw the Trans Am being forced into a ditch in front of the police station. A third car, a Ford pickup, also was struck at that point, police said.
The driver of the Trans Am is from Illinois. He and a passenger were taken to St. Francis Medical Center with back and neck injuries.
Police would not identified any of the people involved pending further investigation.
