An argument Friday led to a stabbing between co-workers at a Jackson restaurant. Cape Girardeau police arrested a man on suspicion of assault Friday morning.

According to Jackson police, Mark A. Sterling, 54, of Cape Girardeau was working at Delmonico’s restaurant in Jackson at 10:45 a.m. when another employee came in and began to argue with him.

During the argument, Sterling began attacking his fellow employee and they wrestled on the ground.

Sterling pulled a knife and cut the other employee on his neck, according to a Jackson police news release.

The fight was broken up by the other employees, and Sterling fled to Cape Girardeau.

The victim refused medical treatment, Jackson public information officer Rodney Barnes said.

Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney Chris Limbaugh filed felony charges of first-degree assault and armed criminal action against Sterling on Friday afternoon. Jackson police had suggested those charges.

“A cut is a cut when somebody pulls a knife,” Barnes said of the first-degree assault suggestion.
