Mr. D is an 88-year-old retired Pentecostal minister living alone on a meager income.
He has poor vision, hardening arteries and congestive heart failure. He lives on $700 a month plus some food stamps, but medical bills and doctors visits don't leave much for food or other household needs.
A daughter, grandson and nephew help as much as they can, but Mr. D has no savings.
He lives in an older home in Cape Girardeau with his small dog.
He could use items like deodorant and toothpaste, dish towels and cleaning supplies.
He made a special request through the Christmas for the Elderly program, which helps provide basic supplies and needs for older, low-income persons throughout the year, for toilet paper, a mop, blankets and sheets and paper towels.
Mr. D also could use some size 10 socks, flannel shirts in size 10 and pants in size 34Wx29L. Medium undershirts and size 34 underwear are also needed.
Gifts of dog food would be appreciated.
The Southeast Missourian newspaper will collect gifts for Christmas for the Elderly at its Cape Girardeau and Jackson offices. Monetary donations can be sent to the Christmas for the Elderly c/o Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center, 1121 Linden, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63701.
