SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A Springfield man pleaded guilty Friday to illegally wearing a U.S. Marine Corps uniform and medals.

Michael Paul Bramlett, 34, pleaded guilty in federal court to two misdemeanors. The charges stemmed from public appearances in December 2005 when he wore a Marine Corps uniform with decorations, medals, badges and ribbons without authorization.

Sentencing will be scheduled after a presentence investigation.

Bramlett faces up to one year in federal prison without parole and a fine of up to $10,000.

Bramlett attended a Marine Corps League dinner and a funeral wearing an officer's uniform with several medals and ribbons, including a Navy Cross, Silver Star and Purple Heart. He claimed he had been wounded by an improvised explosive device in Iraq.

Bramlett served in the Navy for three months in 1989 but never served in the Marine Corps.
