A Cape Girardeau man is accused of stabbing an acquaintance in the face with a screwdriver.
Hyman Heratio Hightower was arrested Sunday by Cape Girardeau police and charged with first-degree assault.
Hightower was the backseat passenger with a man and a woman Sunday, Cape Girardeau police Cpl. Brad Neels wrote in a probable-cause statement.
Hightower and the driver began to argue.
Hightower wrapped a cloth around the grip of a screwdriver, then began punching and stabbing the back of the driver's seat, according to Neels' report.
The driver pulled over at 1929 Independence St., got out of the truck and ordered Hightower to get out.
Hightower began to jump out of the truck, lunged at the driver and stabbed him in the left side of the face in a swinging motion, creating a 2-inch laceration, according to the report.
Hightower fled the scene on foot but was arrested several hours later, Neels wrote.
Hightower's bond was set at $75,000 cash only.
