A Kansas City, Missouri, man committed a carjacking in Cape Girardeau County before dumping the vehicle on Interstate 55 near Benton, Missouri, and being arrested by Scott County sheriff’s deputies Saturday in Benton, deputies said.
Prosecuting attorneys from Scott and Cape Girardeau counties charged Patrick E. Jones, 35, according to news releases from both sheriff’s departments.
In Cape Girardeau County, Jones faces a charge of second-degree robbery, according to a news release.
In Scott County, Jones faces charges of tampering with a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, according to a news release.
Jones’ Scott County bond is $5,000 cash or surety.
His Cape Girardeau County bond is $25,000 cash or surety.
The victim was assaulted about 7 p.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of Hidden Valley Drive in Cape Girardeau County, and his or her vehicle was stolen, according to deputies.
Deputies later found the vehicle on I-55 with one plastic bag containing 9 grams of cocaine and another bag containing marijuana inside it vehicle, according to the Scott County news release.
Jones was found outside a home in Benton after a resident reported a suspicious-looking man.
