A man accused of robbing The Bank of Missouri in Cape Girardeau last week appeared via videoconference at the Cape Girardeau County Courthouse on Tuesday for his initial arraignment.

Jeron Mister, 35, of Fairview Heights, Illinois, is charged with second-degree robbery after authorities say he stole money from The Bank of Missouri at 3427 William St. on Sept. 2.

A probable-cause statement filed in the case says Mister entered the bank that afternoon, approached the teller area and gave a note to an employee that said, "Give me money."

The employee told police the suspect told her to hurry up or he would kill her, the statement said.

She said she gave him the money, which he put in his pockets before running from the bank.

No one was injured during the robbery.

Police apprehended Mister minutes later at Doctors Park on South Mount Auburn Road, and the stolen money was recovered, according to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

After being advised of his Miranda rights at the police station, Mister admitted to robbing the bank, saying he wrote the note on a deposit slip he had requested, according to the statement.

Cape Girardeau Police Sgt. Adam Glueck said the suspect "had his hand in his pocket as if he had a weapon," but no weapon was brandished.

Judge Gary Kamp said if Mister is convicted, the felony charge could bring a minimum five-year sentence and a maximum sentence of 15 years.

Mister is being represented by attorney Richard Veit of St. Charles, Missouri. A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. Oct. 1.
