A Cape Girardeau man accused of helping an Arkansas fugitive try to escape arrest on Tuesday was bound over for arraignment.

Eddie Kent is accused of helping his son, Eric Kent of Jonesboro, Ark., in a February attempt to flee Cape Girardeau police officers.

Eric Kent was wanted on Arkansas warrants for possession of methamphetamine, kidnapping, aggravated assault and theft.

During a preliminary hearing Tuesday, three Cape Girardeau police officers described the Feb. 14 pursuit in which Eddie Kent allegedly fled from police with Eric Kent and a female passenger in his 1995 Ford pickup truck.

Police had gone to Eddie Kent's residence at 2640 Hopper Road, No. 14, after receiving information his son might be staying there.

While there, officer Cary Dunavan said he noticed a red pickup truck parked outside Eddie Kent's trailer. After searching the area for Eric Kent, Dunavan noticed the truck was gone. He located it and followed it, suspecting the fugitive might be inside.

Dunavan said he pulled the truck over on Cape Rock Drive and ordered the driver to turn off the vehicle, which then accelerated forward on Cape Rock Drive.
