'Makeup is fun': Cape Girardeau makeup artist Amber Stemmerman dishes on her experience working at the Latin Grammys

__Flourish: Let's start from the beginning: When did your love of makeup first begin?__

__Amber:__ I have loved makeup and all things fashion ever since I can remember! I grew up in a neighborhood of all boys, so there were certainly a few unwilling victims who fell subject to my makeup practices!

__Flourish: How did makeup become a career for you? What experience and training have you had?__

__Amber:__ For me, I always saw makeup as a passion or a dream job -- I never imagined I could turn it into a real career! I was self-taught, as many artists are, and felt like I needed to be challenged. I enrolled at TNT Agency in Southern California and studied the makeup artistry in depth there.

__Flourish: What do you love about your work?__

__Amber:__ I love being able to offer clients that "wow" moment. There is no better feeling than having a client tell me I have helped them feel special for an important day in their life.

__Flourish: We hear you did makeup at the Latin Grammys -- that is so exciting! How did that come about?__

__Amber:__ The Latin Grammys was an amazing experience for me! Luckily, I am with The Nation's Top Agency, where I went to school, and they are blessed with lots of incredible opportunities. TNT is great about networking with their alumni and offering work for such events. This year the show took place in November in Las Vegas.

__Flourish: Tell us more about your experience working at the Grammys.__

__Amber:__ I was lucky enough to be directly backstage with the makeup and hair team! We were working with all the dancers and were able to hear private performances from Fifth Harmony, Ricky Martin, Major Lazer, Omi, J Balvin and more. Plus, I was so shocked when renowned choreographer (and Jennifer Lopez's boyfriend) Casper Smart walked into the makeup room for a dancer consultation! Naturally, I had to get a selfie! He was such a sweetheart about it and I tried not to fan girl out ... tried!

__Flourish: What's next? Any other cool projects in the works?__

__Amber:__ I do have a top-secret, very important project in the works! I can't give away too many details yet, but just know you will see lots of beautiful things coming from me soon. I will be releasing more info on my social media accounts in the near future.

__Flourish: What is your No. 1 makeup or beauty tip for women?__

__Amber:__ I do believe that beauty starts with skin care. Your skin is your largest organ; it's so important to drink lots of water and wear SPF. Remember: Makeup is fun! Don't forget to take care of yourself -- and then have fun with makeup!

__Flourish: Anything else you'd like to add?__

__Amber:__ Social media has been so beneficial for me to connect with people who have questions. Makeup can be intimidating, but it's fun, and it just washes off! I do live step-by-step tutorials on Snapchat with lots of before and after shots (so you get to see real-life skin care issues and how to overcome them with makeup). Also, Instagram is a great tool in helping with product recommendations. I love helping others, and social media has given me a platform to do so.
