The Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad remained activated Sunday in response to the shooting death of a 44-year-old man whose body was found early Saturday.
The victim, Matthew Ervin of Cape Girardeau, was found dead by police officers at Park Drive and North Fountain Street in Cape Girardeau after they received a report of shots fired in the area.
"We believe the homicide was a drug-related incident," Sgt. Jason Selzer, a spokesman with the Cape Girardeau Police Department, said Sunday.
By Sunday evening there were still no suspects in custody.
The major case squad is searching for information from people who may have seen or talked to Ervin in the last 24 hours before he was shot.
Anyone with information on where Ervin was or what he was doing is urged to contact the Cape Girardeau Police Department at 335-6621 or CrimeStoppers at 339-6312.
