CAIRO, Ill. -- U.S. 51/U.S. 60/U.S. 62 across the Ohio River bridge between Cairo and Wickliffe, Ky., will be reduced to one lane during daylight hours Wednesday, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. This will allow for maintenance and electrical work on aviation marker lights atop the bridge structure. In addition to the lane reduction, there will be a 10-foot maximum load width restriction. Travelers using the span can expect 20-minute delays and alternating traffic flow, controlled by flaggers. The work will require the use of a 120-foot man-lift to allow crews to reach the top of the span's superstructure. Because of the lift's size, all traffic will have to be halted several times during the day. Those interruptions will be limited to the hours of 9 to 11 a.m., 1 to 3 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m. Motorists should be alert for equipment, flaggers, and maintenance personnel on the bridge deck near traffic flow.
