Mailbox bomb explodes at Portageville home

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. -- Police evacuated neighborhood homes Wednesday night after a small bomb exploded in a mailbox at 208 W. 7th St. at about 6:20 p.m. No one was injured in the explosion, but the mailbox was demolished and siding was blown off the house. The force of the blast was enough to blow open the front door of a neighbor's house. Portageville police ordered the evacuation to investigate the possibility of other explosives in the area. Several outside agencies were called in to help. Information on what kind of explosive was used was not available Wednesday, nor were arrests made that day in relation to the incident. Police did not say if the bombing was a random or targeted act. "I don't know who did it or why," said Harry T. R. Johnson, who rents the house. "I don't bother nobody or have no trouble with nobody."

Few details on Sikeston shooting, stabbing

SIKESTON, Mo. -- The SEMO Major Case Squad continued to investigate Wednesday an incident which left three people hospitalized Tuesday. The Sikeston Department of Public Safety responded to a call at an apartment complex at 819 Davis St. where they found three injured people on the floor of an apartment. According to DPS director Drew Juden, an investigation revealed that a man knocked on the front door of the apartment occupied by Michael Terry, 49, and his wife, Jennifer Terry, age unavailable. As Michael Terry unlocked the door, a suspect fired a shot through the door, striking him. When the door was opened a fight ensued between the two. Jennifer Terry came to the aid of her husband. The Terrys were able to retrieve kitchen knives they used to stab the suspect multiple times, according to a release issued by the DPS Tuesday. The release said Michael Terry received three gunshot wounds and was listed in serious but stable condition after surgery at a local hospital; Jennifer Terry received two cuts and was listed in stable condition at a local hospital.
