The public will have an opportunity to see the new Regional Mail Processing Center at work in Cape Girardeau April 26.
"We will hold an open house at the facility from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on that date," said Larry Shafer, an account representative with the U.S. Postal Service Marketing & Communications.
The open house date originally had been set this past weekend.
The new facility, situated at Cape West Business Park, processes all mail from four zip code areas.
When the center opened in November, it sorted all incoming and outbound mail for two zip codes Cape Girardeau and Sikeston. "The center expanded to full operation in February of this year," said Shafer. "It now processes the mail from Cape Girardeau, Sikeston, Poplar Bluff and Flat River areas."
Shafer said the center handled about a half-million pieces of mail each day.
