Dr. Mark Kasten, a Cape Girardeau physician, has been installed as the 43rd president of the Missouri Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP).
The MAFP is a state chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians, which has more than 68,000 members, including practicing family physicians, residents and medical students. The state association has 1,250 members.
Kasten, a graduate of Cape Central High School, attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he received a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry. He obtained his medical degree form UMKC in 1977 and completed his three-year family practice residency at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Kansas City.
Kasten, who is board certified in family practice, is currently in partnership with two other physicians at the Family Practice Specialty Center, 69 Doctors' Park in Cape Girardeau.
He has served as a director of the MAFP eight years, and is an alternate delegate to the AAFP. He is active in the Cape Girardeau County Area Medical Society, having served as president, and currently as delegate to the Missouri State Medical Association.
He is member of the Missouri State Task Force, and served as chairman of the Family Practice Department at Southeast Missouri Hospital from 1984-1990.
He is currently secretary to the medical staff and a member of the credentials and executives committee at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
