The ribbon crusade begins Friday and ends New Year's Day. About 1,000 ribbons will be distributed by schools, churches and local law enforcement agencies during the holiday season.

The Team Spirit leaders are asking community members to tie the red ribbons on a vehicle to remind all motorists not to drink and drive.

In 1994, one person in Missouri was killed or injured in a drinking-related accident almost every hour.
