Lynch assigned to Army Chemical Branch in Va.

Lt. Col. Brian Lynch, a 1982 graduate of Notre Dame High School and Cape Girardeau native, has been assigned as the chief of the Chemical Branch at the U.S. Army Human Resources Command in Alexandria, Va. His recent service includes commander of the Newport Chemical Depot in Indiana where 2.3 million pounds of VX nerve agent was destroyed. Lynch was commissioned into the Army Chemical Corps in 1987 from Southeast Missouri State University as a graduate of the ROTC program. Leadership positions Lynch has served in since commissioning include mechanized rifle infantry platoon leader; scout platoon leader; brigade chemical officer; chemical detachment commander; chief of experimentation for the directorate of combat development at the U.S. Army Chemical School, deputy division chemical officer; division headquarters commandant and division chemical officer for the 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky., and Mosul, Iraq. He holds a master of science degree in administration from Central Michigan University and a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Southeast Missouri State University. Lynch is also a graduate of the chemical officer basic and advanced courses and the command and general staff college. Awards Lynch has received include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, the Combat Action Badge and Airborne and Air Assault Badges. Lynch is the son of Germaine and the late Calvin Lynch of Cape Girardeau. He and his wife, the former Bonnie Gronowski, reside in Virginia and have two sons, Justin and Derek.
