New findings about ways Lyme disease is spread will be presented tonight at a meeting of the Four Seasons Audubon Society.
The presentation is free and open to the public. It will be held at the Cape Girardeau Public Library at 7 p.m.
Pam Lynxwiler, Lyme Disease Coordinator for Dr. Ed Masters of Cape Girardeau, will speak at the meeting. Master and Lynxwiler, a nurse, have contributed to a recent study which reveals that Lyme disease in Missouri is carried by the lone star tick, some dog ticks, and occasionally by cat fleas and biting flies.
Lynxwiler and her daughter also suffer from the disease. The title of her lecture is "Lyme Disease in the Midwest: Signs and Symptoms, Prevention, and Tick Identification and Removal."
Masters and Lynxwiler will formally present their research findings in June at the International Lyme Disease Conference in Arlington, Va.
