Four people will be honored by the Lutheran Family and Children's Services of Southeast Missouri for their courage, commitment and work in Cape Girardeau
A community service award and an award named in honor of the Rev. Walter J. Keisker will be presented at 6 p.m. Thursday at Drury Lodge as part of the annual recognition dinner for the Lutheran family services agency.
Tickets are available for the dinner at $30 each or $200 for a table of eight. Reservations are needed by Monday and can be made by calling 334-5866.
Keith May and Brad Moore will represent the Cape Girardeau Police Department, which was chosen as the recipient of the community service award. May and Moore were shot Feb. 10 at the Super 8 Motel at 2011 N. Kingshighway while investigating a tip from the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force. May was shot in his abdomen; Moore was hit in his left shoulder.
The police department was chosen as the community award recipient because its members daily risk their lives to keep the community safe and protected.
Dale and Mary Rauh, who are active in the Lutheran church, will receive "The Walter" award, named for the Rev. Keisker, who has been an advocate for the LFCS agency.
Dale Rauh has had a 20-year commitment to the Lutheran service agency, serving on its board of directors and as a chairman. He also has served as a liaison between the local office and the parent agency in St. Luis.
He also was instrumental in helping advocate a building and working toward construction of the agency's building at 2911 Breckenridge.
Mary Rauh organizes the agency's annual home tour and has worked behind the scenes at the recognition dinners each year.
