Luetkemeyer talks money at Cape stop

State Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-St. Elizabeth, made a stop in Cape Girardeau Thursday as part of his campaign for Missouri state treasurer.

One of seven candidates in the upcoming Republican primary, Luetkemeyer came to Southeast Missouri to let the voters know what separates his team from the rest of the pack.

"We're the ones with the best background and the most support of my colleagues," Luetkemeyer said. He cited the backing of 70 fellow state House members and U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshoff to his candidacy.

Luetkemeyer said that he is running to bring some of the $2.5 billion to $3 billion that is currently going out of state back into Missouri, to promote economic development. He said he's the only candidate with the combination of public and private experience with state finance.

In addition to six years as District 115 Representative, Luetkemeyer said he has 30 years of banking and financial background as a bank vice president and former state bank examiner. As such, he said he's worked extensively with the State Treasurer's office in both public and private capacities. In addition, he's owned an insurance agency for 26 years and farmed livestock in central Missouri for the past 20 years.
