The Missouri Vocational Association/Missouri Business Education Association celebrated ~its 29th annual Joint Summer Vocation Workshop and MVA Conference in Springfield July 20-23. More than 3,300 MVA members registered and more than 100 exhibitors brought displays. Approximately 800 MBEA members attended the conference.
The business education teachers from Jackson Senior High School attending the MBEA Conference were: Janet Ludwig, department chair; Debra Hoffmann, vocation instructor; Janet Koch, Becky Riney and Rhonda Norman. The Jackson Senior High School Business Department was recognized for 100 percent membership in Missouri Business Education Association.
Teachers were able to network with other business teachers, learn new techniques, update information and socialize with colleagues from Missouri. MBEA stimulates growth and professional development in business education throughout the state.
At the conference, Ludwig was elected president of the Missouri Business Education Association for the 1998-1999 year. Previously, she served as treasurer, secretary and president-elect of MBEA, and is a member of the MBEA Executive Board. Ludwig will represent Missouri at several state, regional and national conventions for business/vocation education.
As president of the business division, Ludwig will also serve as a member of the Missouri Vocational Association Executive Board and the American Vocation Association Executive Board. A total of 11 divisions make up the association's specialized groups within the field of vocation education.
At the awards luncheon, Becky Riney and Janet Koch were inducted as members of Who's Who in Missouri Business Education. Riney and Koch were recognized for their dedication in promoting and improving business education through leadership with their involvement in educational and professional activities. Ludwig was selected for Who's Who in Missouri Business Education in 1996, and Debra Hoffmann was selected for Who's Who in Missouri Business Education in 1997.
The theme for this year's conference was "Business Education is POWER -- Professional Opportunities With Exciting Rewards." Business curriculum areas, multimedia, on-line lesson planning, computer troubleshooting, classroom management, business etiquette, teaching strategies, trends in business, and assessments were some of the interesting, timely topics that were addressed in approximately 100 workshops.
