Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) surprised longtime athlete Lucas Blattel with some big news Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the SEMO District Fair.
Blattel was told he will be inducted into the Special Olympics Missouri Hall of Fame this coming November. In attendance for this moment were his family, friends, and co-workers.
He is known for his commitment both on and off the field and has competed in nearly every sport offered in Cape Girardeau, according to the news release. He is a true mentor, often helping younger athletes feel welcome and confident by partnering with them in sports and attending their practices.
Blattel is involved in SOMO events such as the Polar Plunge, Tip-A-Cop fundraisers and other activities helping to raise significant funds for the Southeast Missouri area.
He also has achieved personal athletic success, including representing Team Missouri at the 2011 World Games in Greece, where he won second place in doubles tennis.
