SCOTT CITY -- Lt. Gov. Roger Wilson is planning a visit to Scott City school next month.
School Superintendent Doug Berry told the school board this week that Wilson will meet with students on Dec. 7 to talk about accepting the challenge of being successful in school.
Berry reported that the school's presentation during the annual meeting of the Missouri School Boards Association received an excellent evaluation from those attending.
School district representatives highlighted its "no pass-no play" policy at the Lake of the Ozarks meeting last month.
Berry had positive news about the school's new cafeteria contract with Opaa Foods: The lunch count since Nov. 7 has increased by an average of 75 students per day.
Berry told the board the overall operation has been going well while Opaa Foods' management and cooks are dealing with minor problems relating to the increased student participation.
Elementary-school Principal Carl Rosenquist reported that the two school librarians soon will receive training on using MOREnet, which will allow students and faculty to access information by computers and modems.
All students eventually will have access to the on-line computer information, Rosenquist said. "MOREnet will provide Scott City students access to the information highway," he told the board.
Berry reported last month's attendance figures:
-- 96.2 percent, kindergarten, enrollment of 73;
-- 96.2 percent, grades one to six, 423 students; and
-- 93.9 percent, grades seven to 12, 467 students.
After a one-month review, the board adopted a new mathematics curriculum guide for the students.
