The Missouri fine Arts Academy is a three-week residential program for 200 of Missouri's artistically gifted students who are ready to begin their junior or senior year in high school. All public and private high schools in Missouri were eligible to nominate at least one sophomore or junior for the Academy. Schools nominating students for the Academy were required to complete a comprehensive application that included an example of the student's particular area of talent. A selection committee appointed by the Department screened and evaluated all nominations before selecting qualified participants.

Lowes has been on the scholastic and A honor roll in high school and plays varsity soccer. She is a member of the Spanish Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Drama Club, JAM and Peer Tutors. She submitted several oil paintings for the Academy selection committee. Lowes has also worked with different art mediums and helped to create and paint the tennis backboard in the Jackson City Park. Lowes' future plans are to major in art in college.
