A musical based on the life of Cape Girardeau founder Don Louis Lorimier will be presented Oct. 22-24 as the final major event of the city's bicentennial.

"Lou-ee," written and composed by David Kaempfer, tells the story of Lorimier's dream to establish a town called Lorimont (alas, Girardot was too well established).

It's also a story about Lorimier's family, which included his French-Indian wife and seven children.

The work is being directed by Chuck Ross, with musical direction by Ann Swanson.

Actors and singers are needed to round out the large cast. Several teenage boys are needed to play the sons of Louis Lorimier. They do not need to sing.

A singing and speaking part for a man in his 30s or 40s and a woman in the same age bracket are needed. Two young men, late teens or early 20s, are needed to play the husbands of two of the Lorimiers' daughters. Only one needs to sing well.

Interested persons may call the SEMO Council on the Arts at 334-9233 for information or may show up at the 4:30 p.m. practice Saturday at 105 Broadway.

"Lou-ee" is the third full-length show written by Kaempfer. The first, a musical titled "The Weatherman's Picnic," was produced at the Kirkwood Theatre Guild in St. Louis.
