Beginning Monday, drivers will need to consider alternate routes around Fountain, Good Hope and Morgan Oak streets in Cape Girardeau, according to a news release from the Cape Girardeau city government.
Contractor Nip Kelley Equipment Company is beginning phase two of street and roundabout construction for the Fountain Street extension project, the news release said. No through traffic will be allowed to cross, drivers will be detoured around the closed intersections, and construction traffic will be heavy on the streets, so drivers are urged to use extreme caution while passing through work zones, according to the news release.
The Good Hope Street intersection will reopen in early October, and the remainder of the project should be finished in December, the news release said. Both completion estimates are weather-permitting. For further information, contact David Whitaker, assistant city engineer, at 339-6327 or dwhitaker@cityofcapegirardeau.org.
