JACKSON -- Jarrett C. Benton, 17, of Jackson, is one of 38 high school students who participated in a 22nd Annual Missouri Cadet Patrol Academy.
The week-long academy is sponsored by the American Legion and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The program includes classroom instruction in the history of law enforcement, defensive driving, radar, motor vehicle laws, physical fitness, first aid, drug abuse and use of alcohol.
The young participants also receive demonstrations of police skills, such as personal defense and weapons firing, from member of the patrol.
Benton plans to pursue a degree in criminal justice. He is the son of Bruce and Alice Benton of Jackson.
