Thursday was also the first day of school in Jackson. Superintendent Ron Anderson said Friday first day enrollment there was 4,675 students. On the first day last year the district counted 4,646 students.

In the Scott City School District, 891 students attended Wednesday, said superintendent Diann Bradshaw-Ulmer. There was not a comparative figure immediately available from the first day of school the previous year, but Bradshaw-Ulmer said the count was down slightly from the end of last year.

All figures will fluctuate throughout the first weeks of school because of late enrollments. Official start-of-year enrollment numbers will be available in September.
