On Memorial Day weekend eight Demolays in the Excelsior Chapter of Jackson attended State Conclave. At this yearly event they competed in numerous sports and ritual.

In team sports they won first place in basketball and tug-of-war. They also won second in softball.

In track and field, Todd Shelton finished first in the 200m and 400m, second in the 100m and 800m, and third in the two and one half cross country course.

A first place ping pong trophy was fought out by Ryan Shelton, while Derek Hoffmann preceded to win second in a very close free-throw tournament.

All of the groups' efforts made them the recipients of The Outstanding Athletic Chapter Trophy, which was a definite feat since there were many chapters from all over Missouri, including all the St. Louis and Kansas City Chapters.

In ritual, which consisted of memorizing-300 word and up parts, the chapter also did very well. Competition was very fierce and slight mishaps meant the difference between first place and not placing at all. Matt Proffer received third place in the fourth Preceptor with 902 of 1000 points. Mark Sander received third place in the first Preceptor scoring 928 of 1000 points. Brandon Wendel received third place in the fifth Preceptor with 925 of 1000 points.

Amanda Crouch was elected the Chapter Sweetheart and did an excellent job of representing the chapter. She won first place in the talent competition, "blowing away the competition with an amazing piano performance," according to members. She also won second runner-up for Missouri State Demolay Sweetheart.

"Overall the weekend was great: Everyone had a great time with minimal sleep and competed exceptionally well," a Demolay spokesman reported. "Jackson Demolay's active young men with exceptionally humorous and supporting advisors, shared brotherhood and fellowship with all the Demolays of Missouri."

Among those attending were Adam Gohn, Derek Hoffmann, Matt Proffer, Ryan Shelton, Todd Shelton, Mark Sander, Rodney Riehn, and Brandon Wendel. The advisors were Bill Flannery, Norman Proffer, and John Sander.
