A 7-week-old Cape Girardeau baby was hospitalized this week with head injuries from possible abuse by a sibling. The baby was taken to a St. Louis-area hospital with head trauma, but had no external injuries, he said. Investigators believe a 4-year-old sibling shook or dropped the baby Wednesday while their mother was asleep, according to police spokesman Jason Selzer.

City to hold auction Saturday at Arena Park

Cape Girardeau will hold a public auction beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the 4-H shelter in Arena Park. Property to be auctioned includes vehicles, lawn care equipment, office equipment and other items. Lunch will be available. An auction flyer with item listings may be picked up at the Public Works Department Office, 2007 Southern Expressway, today from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Rally, parade to spotlight fire engines Oct. 14

The Cape Girardeau Fire Department will hold the Capaha Fire Truck Rally Oct. 14. The rally will take place in Capaha Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be preceded by a Fire Prevention Parade starting at 9:30 a.m. The parade will begin at the Hutson's Fine Furniture parking lot and end in the park.

Talent, McCaskill in live debate on WPSD-TV

NBC's Meet the Press will host a live debate Sunday between incumbent U.S. Sen. Jim Talent, R-Mo., and his Democratic challenger, State Auditor Claire McCaskill. The debate will air at 8 a.m. on WPSD-TV from Paducah, Ky., on-air Channel 6 and Charter Communications Channel 6 in Cape Girardeau. The debate will also be available on the Internet after 1 p.m. Sunday at www.mtp.msnbc.com and will be rebroadcast 9 p.m. and midnight Sunday on MSNBC, Charter Communications Channel 55.
