An award will be presented to a Cape Girardean who has demonstrated values of justice, freedom and social betterment through non-violence, two local groups have announced.
The Southeast Missouri Fellowship of Reconciliation and the local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People are sponsoring the Martin Luther King Jr. Award.
Names of nominees for the award must be submitted by Jan. 6. Nominations must be sent to the reconciliation fellowship at P.O. Box 1661, Cape Girardeau, Mo., 63702-1661. Persons wanting a nomination form can call the Rev. Craig L. Nessan, 334-5159 or 334-5852.
The award will be given at a Jan. 15 worship service at the Cape Girardeau Civic Center, 232 Broadway. Donations collected at a memorial worship service in King's honor will be given to Southeast Missouri State University's Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Fund in the name of the award recipient. The memorial service will begin at 7:30 p.m.
