JACKSON -- Loans and grants are available to repair health and safety hazards around the house through the 504 Loan-Grant Program at the Rural Economic and Community Development office.
One percent loans are available to people who own their own house but need to repair the property and lack the resources to do it. Income guidelines are required to meet the loan criteria. In Cape Girardeau County, income levels range from $12,700 for a single person to $23,950 for a family of eight.
The grants are only available to people over 62 years old who own a home, cannot make loan payments and meet low income requirements.
Properties eligible for a loan or grant can be in the country or city of less than 20,000 population. For more information about this program, call the Rural Economic and Community Development office at 243-3158. The office serves the Bollinger, Cape Girardeau and Perry counties area.
