CAPE GIRARDEAU - St. Francis Medical Center will present a free public seminar on living wills Jan. 17.
The seminar will be given in the St. Francis Health & Education Centre on the hospital's west side. It begins at 7 p.m.
The recent "right-to-die" case of Nancy Cruzan, the 33-year-old Missouri woman who died recently following an eight-year coma, has sparked a good deal of interest in living wills, according to St. Francis Medical Center. People can use the documents to make their wishes known to family members and friends concerning medical care and the prolonging of their lives through artificial means.
The program will feature local attorney John Bradshaw. His presentation will touch on the legal aspects of living wills and the impact of the Nancy Cruzan case.
Although the program is free of charge, space is limited and pre-registration requested. To register or for more information, call the St. Francis Education Department at 339-6107 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
