List of city tax presentations scheduled

Cape Girardeau city officials are in the middle of presenting 33 PowerPoint presentations to explain four tax measures on the April 8 ballot.

Voters will be asked to approve a quarter-cent sales tax, a local use tax, a storm water fee and the extension of a 10-cent property tax. The measures would generate an estimated $4.13 million a year. City officials say the money would go to pay operating expenses, replace aging equipment, improve storm drainage, build a new fire station, expand the police station and construct a water park.

City manager Michael Miller and Mayor Jay Knudtson are giving the presentations to various groups, including civic clubs, city boards and city employees.

Here is the remaining schedule of presentations.

Today: Invest4Cape Committee, a group pushing the tax issues, at 7:30 a.m. at city hall; City Council meeting, 7 p.m. at city hall.

Feb. 24: Cape Girardeau Jaycees, noon at the Drury Lodge; Cape Girardeau Board of Education, 6 p.m. at the board office, 301 N. Clark.

Feb. 25: Vision 2020, 7:30 a.m. at the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce office; Board of Realtors, 11:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn; Downtown Merchants Association, 5:30 p.m., Port Cape Girardeau restaurant.

March 5: National Association of Retired Federal Employees, 12:30 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center; Board of Examiners, 7 p.m. at city hall.

March 6: Cape West Rotary, noon at the Holiday Inn; Evening Optimists, 6 p.m. at Port Cape Girardeau restaurant; Board of Adjustment, 7 p.m. at city hall.

March 10: Downtown Rotary Club, noon at the Holiday Inn.

March 11: Airport Board, 5 p.m. at the Osage Community Centre.

March 18: Neighborhood Watch, 6 p.m. at the police station.

March 20: Cape Girardeau County Pachyderm Club, 6:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn.

March 24: Breakfast Optimist Club, 6:30 a.m. at the Drury Lodge.

March 26: Noon Optimist Club, noon at Port Cape Girardeau; Historic Preservation Commission, 7 p.m. at city hall.

March 27: Library Board, 7:30 a.m., Cape Girardeau Public Library; Golf Board, noon at the SEMO Fair Board office.
