TROY, Mo. (AP) -- The sheriff in eastern Missouri's Lincoln County is stepping down to take a security job with a private company.
Dan Torres says the new job offers better benefits and pay. He currently makes just under $57,000.
The Lincoln County Commission is expected to announce a replacement on Friday. Torres announced his resignation on Wednesday.
Torres was serving his second term, which ends at the end of this year. His final day at work will be Monday.
Torres is a 41-year-old Army veteran who grew up in Troy. He served seven years with the Los Angeles Police Department's vice and gang squad before joining Troy police in 1996. He was elected sheriff in 2000.
