Make plans now for Aug. 8 if you like barbecuing or eating barbecue.
The Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a backyard amateur barbecue cookoff and tasting. Grill and smoker sizes are limited to 800 square inches cooking grid.
Teams will cook four meats: hamburger, beef kabobs, pork spare ribs and pork butts. Most contest meats will be furnished.
Registration is $10 per team for all four categories. A barbecue training session will be held July 30 at Magill Hall at 6:30 p.m., and a practice cook will be held Aug. 2 at 1:30 p.m. at Shelter three at Cape County Park north.
A team may consist of one or several people.
The contest will be held on the grounds of St. Vincents Seminary. For more information contact the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce at 335-3312.
