Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder of Cape Girardeau was awarded the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award on Tuesday by the Great Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The award is presented to Eagle Scouts who, through their life work and by giving back to their communities, set themselves apart. Fewer than 2,000 of the 2 million Eagle Scouts have received the award. Kinder became an Eagle Scout in 1969 as a member of Boy Scout Troop 3 sponsored by Centenary United Methodist Church. "I am honored to receive this award from the National Eagle Scout Association," Kinder said in a news release. "The Boy Scouts of America continue a long tradition of teaching young men the valor of hard work, patriotism and community service."
