The Cape Girardeau Public Library will launch a federally-funded program Monday to help new parents and their babies.
The program, called Baby Bags, Books and More, is being funded by a federal Library Service and Construction Act grant. Canvas bags filled with adult books on parenting, videos for parents and babies will be provided. In addition there will be board and cloth books as well as developmental toys for babies.
Each bag can be checked out for up to three weeks. After the three weeks, parents can pick up a new bag.
Material is designed to help children from birth to 2. Topics range from teething to toilet training to playing games.
To save time, parents can call the library and request a bag for a child of a certain age, then pick it up. There is no charge unless material is lost or overdue.
Bags will not be available until Monday. No requests will be taken until then.
For further information call the Youth Services Department at the library at 334-5279.
