The Cape Girardeau Public Library this summer is offering a variety of reading programs for everyone from children to adults June 2 through Aug. 2.
Sharon Anderson, teens services coordinator, said she received a $13,218 Library Sciences Technology Act grant, administered through the Missouri State Library, which allows for visitors such as Mother Goose, also known as Chris Everett, and Dr. Gigglewatt; extra staff to help patrons find material; a booklet to promote the program; and program materials.
Anderson said the theme for children will be STEAM, which stands for science, technology, engineering, art and math. Groups include Future Scientists for children birth to age 6; Fizz Boom Read for ages 6 to 12 years old; and Spark a Reaction for ages 12 to 18.
The theme for the adult program is Literary Elements.
Anderson said she's most excited about a program based on Raspberry Pi, a small computer that gives children their first experience in computer programming.
