ST. LOUIS "Les Miserables," the award-winning musical based on Victor Hugo's classic novel, returns to the Fox Theatre in St. Louis March 31 through April 5.
It is part of the Muny's Broadway Series at the Fox. Also as part of the series, "A Chorus Line" will be presented March 3-8 at the Fox.
"Les Miserables" premiered in the United States in December 1986, at the Kennedy Center and opened on Broadway in March 1987.
It is the winner of eight Tony Awards, including best musical, and received the 1987 and 1991 Grammy Award for Best Cast Recording.
"Les Miserables" is an epic saga that sweeps through three turbulent decades of 19th century France. It is the story of fugitive Jean Valjean, who is pitted against the cruel and self-righteous inspector Javert in a lifelong struggle to evade capture.
The $4.2 million production returning to St. Louis is the most expensive and elaborate Broadway show ever mounted for touring and replicates the Broadway production in its entirety. It has sold out in virtually every city it has visited since premiering in 1988.
"A Chorus Line" has claimed nine Tony awards, the Pulitzer Prize and five Drama Desk Awards, and was the longest running show in Broadway history. It features the hits "One" and "What I Did for Love."
Tickets for "Les Miserables" are available at the Muny box office, the Fox Theatre and all MetroTix outlets. Tickets are available by phone at (314) 534-1111. There is a convenience charge added to outlet and phone orders.
Ticket prices range from $15.50 to $41.50, depending on the night and time of the show. Tickets for "A Chorus Line" range from $11 to $32.
